Is Drousiotis’s Fundraiser “Illegal”? Konstantinos Ioannou Calls for a Police Investigation

The campaign raised over €46,000
ALPHANEWSLIVE

There appear to be new developments regarding the campaign launched by Makarios Drousiotis, in which he is asking citizens for financial support for the legal battle he is set to face soon, in the wake of revelations about the “Mafia State” and the complaint filed against him regarding a personal data breach, as well as his criminal prosecution in the Sandy case.

Interior Minister Konstantinos Ioannou, responding to public reactions and citizen reports regarding the legislation on fundraising, stated that “instructions were given yesterday to send a letter to the police as the competent authority, informing them of the incident in question and recommending that they proceed with an investigation into whether a criminal offense has been committed under the legislation governing fundraisers.”

It should be noted that, to date, Makarios Drousiotis’s campaign has raised over €46,000, while reactions to it on social media have been mixed.

Here is Konstantinos Ioannou’s statement in full:

“Under the law governing fundraisers, this is illegal, as there is a clear procedure whereby anyone wishing to conduct a fundraiser must submit an application to the fundraising committee, to be evaluated, and for a decision to be made to approve or reject the request accordingly and under specific conditions (submission of details, amounts, use of funds, remaining balances, etc.). Consequently, instructions were issued yesterday to send a letter to the Police, as the competent authority, informing them of this action and recommending that they proceed with an investigation into the possible commission of aoffense under the legislation governing fundraising campaigns.”
