An alarm was sounded on Saturday, August 15, 2026, in the LEM 0 maritime zone, across from the Limassol Zoo, when a 25-year-old man from Nepal was in danger of drowning.
According to the Limassol Lifeguard Unit, the incident occurred around 5:30 p.m., when the young man attempted to swim back from the rocks to the shore, despite the fact that he was not a strong swimmer and had limited strength. During his attempt, he began to sink and, in a state of panic, grabbed his wife, who was nearby, putting both of them in danger.
The lifeguards monitoring the swimming area at LEM 0, who had already identified the man as a weak swimmer in a dangerous spot, responded immediately with a rescue board. At the same time, bystanders who were nearby (about 20 meters away) also rushed to help.
The lifeguards managed to safely pull the 25-year-old onto the board, while the neighboring LEM 15 lifeguard station, which has a jet ski, was also notified.
After being brought ashore, the 25-year-old was examined by the lifeguards, who provided him with first aid. Since he did not require further medical care, he was released without the need for transport by ambulance.
