Police officers issued 99 citations to drivers not wearing protective helmets during yesterday’s island-wide enforcement campaign targeting the failure to wear protective helmets by riders motorcycles, mopeds, bicycles, and personal mobility devices.
In addition to the above citations, police officers identified and issued citations for another 305 traffic violations during the campaign. Among these were nine citations for driving a motor vehicle without a driver’s license. At the same time, police impounded 17 personal mobility devices and 9 motorcycles during the campaign.
The goal of the campaign was to prevent traffic accidents, improve road safety, and raise awareness about the use of protective helmets.
Since the beginning of the year, 1,360 violations have been reported involving the failure to wear a protective helmet by motorcyclists, 381 involving cyclists, and 1,845 involving users of personal mobility devices.
The Police continue to conduct traffic checks daily, around the clock, throughout the entire road network across Cyprus. The sole objective is to instill road safety awareness and proper road behavior among all road users, in order to prevent traffic collisions and increase safety on the road network.
