Two 20-year-olds were arrested in Ayia Napa as part of an investigation into the possession and circulation of counterfeit banknotes.
Specifically, while conducting a foot patrol in Ayia Napa shortly after midnight, police officers received a tip regarding two customers at an establishment who allegedly attempted to pay with banknotes believed to be counterfeit.
The police officers went to the establishment, where employees handed them two 200-euro bills that appeared to be counterfeit, while also identifying the two individuals who allegedly attempted to pay with them.
Subsequent investigations revealed that the individuals were two 20-year-olds. Three additional 200-euro bills were found in their possession, which lacked the necessary security features.
The two 20-year-olds were arrested on the spot for offenses committed in flagrante delicto and taken into custody, while the five banknotes were seized as evidence for further investigation. The Famagusta Criminal Investigation Department is continuing its investigation.
