Two people, aged 32 and 38, were taken to the Larnaca General Hospital following a fire at a gas station in a community in the district, with the 38-year-old being admitted for treatment due to second- and third-degree burns. The fire was caused when one of the two men attempted to light a cigarette while the other was refueling the vehicle.
The Kofinou Police Station is investigating the case as one of negligent and reckless conduct.
According to the spokesperson for the Larnaca Police Department, Spyros Chrysostomou, the two individuals visited a gas station in a community in the Larnaca district around midnight yesterday.
While the 32-year-old was filling up his vehicle with gas, the 38-year-old approached him with a cigarette in his mouth that had gone out; he attempted to relight it with a lighter, causing a fire.
The fire was extinguished by bystanders, and both men were transported to the Larnaca Emergency Department.
The 32-year-old, after receiving first aid, was released with minor burns.
The 38-year-old was admitted to the hospital for treatment, as he suffered second- and third-degree burns, particularly on his lower limbs.
