Investigators from the Limassol Criminal Investigation Department are looking into the cause of yesterday’s tragedy, in which a police officer was killed and his wife is fighting for her life.
So far, a large number of statements have been taken, and it appears that the couple was facing serious financial problems stemming from gambling.
According to reports, the investigation is focusing on whether this issue led to the escalation of tension between the two.
The tragedy unfolded yesterday morning outside the Agios Spyridonas High School in Zakaki. The 55-year-old police officer, after passing through the Agios Raphael Marina police station, loaded his service weapon 50 minutes before his shift began and, after telling a colleague that he would be going to headquarters at the port for five minutes, he left in his personal vehicle. According to information from Alpha, as he was leaving, the 55-year-old did not appear agitated or exhibit anything else that would arouse his colleagues’ suspicions.
The police officer was captured on closed-circuit surveillance footage moving through the Zakaki area and along the route his wife used to get to work. The two met outside the school, and the bloody incident ensued.

“All information received by the police is being investigated with the utmost seriousness so that we can determine what led to this tragic incident and how it occurred.”
New information has emerged from the husband of the 46-year-old woman’s daughter, who, in a public statement, refutes reports of financial motives and points to domestic violence.
“Everything that’s been written about financial problems, third parties, or other allegations does not correspond to reality. Please stop creating scenarios about a family that is currently struggling to stay afloat. Only we know what we went through inside our home. For many years, my mother lived a reality filled with psychological abuse, fear, and control. “Behind the image the world saw was a woman who was tormented and endured far more than you know.”
The 46-year-old woman, who suffered gunshot wounds to her face and body, underwent hours of surgery and is currently on a ventilator in extremely critical condition.
