Members of the Famagusta Police Department arrested an 18-year-old yesterday in the Famagusta district, as part of an investigation into the possession and circulation of counterfeit banknotes.
Specifically, while evaluating intelligence, members of the OPE went to a premises where they received from an employee two 50-euro banknotes, both bearing the same serial number.
The investigation led to evidence against an 18-year-old, who was subsequently located by police officers.
During a search of the 18-year-old, two additional 50-euro bills were found in his possession, both bearing the same serial number as the previous ones. The banknotes were seized as evidence, and the 18-year-old was arrested on the spot for a flagrant offense.
Subsequently, a search was conducted in the hotel room where the 18-year-old was staying, during which an additional 19 50-euro banknotes were found and seized, all of which bore the same serial number.
The 18-year-old is expected to appear today before the Famagusta District Court for the purpose of issuing a detention order against him.
