The woman, a citizen of the Republic of Cyprus who had been arrested last Saturday, at the Agios Dometios checkpoint by the occupying authorities for failing to complete the crossing procedure from the occupied to the free areas the previous day, Friday, August 21.
The 45-year-old woman was brought before a “military court” today in occupied Nicosia, where the “prosecutor,” referring to the events, stated that on Friday, August 21 at 6 p.m., drove through the Agios Dometios checkpoint into the occupied territories, violating “a restricted military zone and without completing the necessary immigration procedures.”
The next day, he reported, Saturday, August 22, at approximately 1 p.m., while attempting to cross from the Greek Cypriot to the Turkish Cypriot side in the same vehicle, she was informed of her previous “offense” and was arrested, while the vehicle was seized as evidence. The “prosecutor” noted that the woman had no prior “criminal record” and that she admitted to the charges against her.
Her attorney told the “court” that the 45-year-old, who is also a U.K. citizen, expressed remorse for the incident, saying it was her first offense and was due to negligence.
The “court,” taking into account the circumstances of the incident, the 45-year-old’s personal circumstances, and her “clean criminal record,” imposed a fine of 15,000 TL (approximately 273 euros).
