A 27-year-old Egyptian man is the latest victim at sea. The unfortunate young man tragically drowned in the waters off Ladys Mile in Limassol on August 15. The 27-year-old was aboard a catamaran when, under circumstances currently being investigated by the British Bases Police, he fell into the sea and lost his life. A second person was also in danger of drowning.
According to a statement from the British Bases, the incident occurred on August 15. The 27-year-old man, of Egyptian origin, was on a catamaran cruising off the coast of Lady’s Mile Beach. According to witness statements obtained by the police, at some point his cell phone fell into the sea, and the 27-year-old dove in to retrieve it. A 27-year-old man of Jordanian origin dived in with him. The two were found unconscious by passengers on the catamaran and members of the British Bases Police, who were called for assistance since the area falls under their jurisdiction.
First aid was administered to the two young men. The second man regained consciousness, but the unfortunate Egyptian did not survive. His body was transported by ambulance to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A postmortem examination was performed on his body yesterday, and it was determined that his death was caused by drowning. Samples were taken from the body for toxicological and other tests.
The case is being investigated by the British Bases Police, which is already in contact with the Egyptian Embassy regarding next steps.
