Traffic at the Accident and Emergency Departments (AEDs) remains at normal levels, with no unusual increase observed, according to OKYPY spokesperson Charalambos Charilaou, who was asked about this by KYPE in light of recent reports of increased patient numbers.
As Mr. Charilaou told the news agency, the situation observed mainly on weekends “is a recurring and expected phenomenon,” while noting that during the summer season, “increased traffic is expected, especially in coastal cities, due to people traveling for summer vacations and increased tourist traffic.”
At the same time, he explained that the increased patient volume observed on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays is mainly due to the reduced availability of staff and specialists outside of regular working days.
“It’s the same pattern we see every week. We don’t observe anything out of the ordinary,” he said, adding that there is no cause for concern among the public.
No signs of an impact from high temperatures
Regarding the high temperatures, Mr. Charilaou noted that so far there has been no change in patient volume related to the heat wave, pointing out that the situation is being monitored.
At the same time, he assured the public that public hospitals are fully prepared to handle cases arriving at emergency departments and to provide the necessary medical care.
With the summer season in mind, Mr. Charilaou is advising the public to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, stay well-hydrated, remain in shaded or air-conditioned areas, and ensure proper food handling, especially when traveling to the beaches.
