A major search and rescue operation continues off the coast of Kyrenia following the capsizing and sinking of a catamaran carrying 267 people (259 passengers and 8 crew members). According to the latest update from the occupying authorities, there are fatalities from the shipwreck.
Specifically, in his statements, the so-called Prime Minister Ünal Ustel said that so far 237 of the 259 passengers have been rescued, 7 people have lost their lives, and the search continues for 23 others.

According to the BBC, the ill-fated ship is named “Filo Jet.” It is a high-speed vessel flying the Turkish flag, as shown on the Marine Traffic platform. It is 40 meters long and 10 meters wide. Marine Traffic reports that it departed from the port of Kyrenia in the occupied territories at 11:58 a.m. on Sunday and was scheduled to arrive in Tasucu, Turkey, at 5:52 p.m. local time.
