The Fire Department is on high alert due to severe weather conditions, having responded to 14 incidents across Cyprus from yesterday through this hour.
According to the Fire Department’s Press Officer, Andreas Kettis, the incidents mainly involved pumping out rainwater, clearing drains, moving stranded vehicles, and fallen trees.
Specifically, six incidents were recorded in Polis Chrysochous and Paphos, where rainwater had to be pumped out of basements and storm drains had to be cleared.

In Larnaca, two incidents were reported involving the removal of stranded vehicles with passengers due to water accumulation on the road.
Six other incidents were reported in Famagusta, where the Fire Department proceeded to pump out rainwater and deal with fallen trees and tree removals.
In total, over the past 24 hours, the Fire Department responded to 38 incidents, of which 14 were fires, 20 were special services, and four were false alarms.

At 1:20 p.m., we responded to a fire in a prefabricated structure located on the roof of a house in the Amargeti Community in Paphos. The structure served as living quarters for foreign workers, who were absent at the time the fire broke out. The structure and its contents sustained extensive damage from the fire and heat. Water hoses and breathing apparatus were used to extinguish the fire.
Response: 3 fully staffed fire trucks.
Cause: A cooking pot left unattended on a gas stove.
At 6:57 p.m., a response was dispatched for a traffic collision in Lakatamia, Nicosia. A private vehicle collided with the wall of a church in Anthoupoli. Hydraulic rescue tools were used, and one injured person was extricated from the vehicle in cooperation with the Ambulance Service and handed over to the ambulance for transport to the Emergency Department.
Response: Rescue team and vehicle.
At 9:09 p.m., a call was received regarding a fire in a pile of scrap materials and old equipment on the ground floor of an abandoned
in Larnaca. Breathing apparatus and water hoses were used to extinguish the fire. The store was part of a row of five adjacent stores. A search was conducted
in the remaining stores for any trapped individuals; fortunately, no one was found.
Response: 2 fully staffed fire trucks.
Causes: Under investigation in cooperation with the Police.
