Regional in long-term plans
ALPHANEWSLIVE

Amid ongoing meetings and discussions with officials at the Ministry of Transportation regarding the major outstanding issues that need to be addressed over the next 18 months, for Evi Tsolaki, August vacations are a thing of the past.

Her mission is to expedite the implementation of major pending projects—the vast majority of which are in Limassol—to alleviate traffic congestion.

“The traffic problem in Limassol is more serious; therefore, greater emphasis and priority must be given to resolving it,”
Evi Tsolaki – Minister of Transport

The roadmap of projects considered critical to addressing the problem was presented to the mayors of the Greater Limassol area on July 24 by Alexis Vafeadis.

“For the first time, a unified and comprehensive plan has been developed for the projects concerning Limassol, and this is a positive step toward the goal we all want to achieve: alleviating the traffic problem.”
Evi Tsolaki

The new road map

Road projects of immediate priority are highlighted in red.

The main focus is the northern bypass, which will start in the area of the new Limassol stadium in Ypsonas and end in Germasogeia.

In the first phase, the sections from Polemidia to Agia Fyla and from Agios Athanasios to Germasogeia will be developed.

3 To the west, the extension of Agios Athanasios Avenue to the beach, which will also serve the new mall-style commercial developments in Linopetra and

4 to the east, the Anthoupoli cross street and Ilias Kannaouros Avenue in Ypsonas.

5 In the city center, the connection of Roosevelt Avenue to the coastal road and the reconstruction of Agia Fylakseos are of paramount importance.

Ring Road and Six Lanes

Shown in green are the long-term plans for the creation of a new Limassol ring road, which will start at Pyrgos and end at Ypsonas, as well as the upgrade of the highway to six lanes from Pareklisia to Germasogeia.

Among the priorities set to alleviate traffic congestion is the expansion of the Park & Ride service.
