The first bell rings today, September 14, at 7:45 a.m. for elementary school students, with a total of 52,186 students set to attend school.
There are 8,919 first-graders, while 14,398 students will attend preschool.
In addition, according to data for the 2026–2027 school year, there will be 328 elementary schools and 274 kindergartens in operation. The number of teachers in elementary schools is 5,232, and in kindergartens, 1,135.
It should be noted that elementary school teaching staff returned to schools last Monday, September 7.
In a recent interview with CNA, the Minister of Education stated that for the new school year, the Ministry is focusing on further expanding and improving the full-day school program, upgrading the curricula with a shift toward skills-based learning, as well as leveraging new technologies and Artificial Intelligence.
To mark the start of the new school year, on Monday morning, President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides and Minister of Education Athina Michaelidou will visit the Konstantinoupolis Elementary School in Lefkosia,, and to mark the start of the new school year, they will also visit the Agios Dometios Junior High School and the School for the Deaf.
