The following is the statement by the President of the Republic
It is with great sadness that I learned of the death of Popi Christoforou, the tragic mother of the heroic twin boys, Miltos and Christos, who lost their lives in the deadly explosion in Mari.
Poppy Christoforou was a symbol of mental strength, dignity, and resilience. Amid the unbearable pain of the unjust loss of her two children, she transformed her personal grief into a relentless struggle for justice, responsibility, and accountability.
Through her stance and her struggle, she reminded us all of a fundamental obligation: that the State must always be accountable to every family that entrusts its children to the nation, to every person who serves the State, and to every citizen of this country.
Her memory will remain inextricably linked to the memory of Miltos and Christos and to the struggle of a mother who never ceased to seek justice for her children.
On behalf of the government and myself personally, I extend my deepest condolences to her loved ones.
