According to the Forestry Department, the forest fire in Neo Chorio, Paphos, was caused by the use of an angle grinder.
In a statement, the department reported that the fire was caused by the use of an angle grinder (Flex). The user admitted to using the tool, and a formal complaint was filed in accordance with applicable law.

The Department of Forests has issued an appeal to the public to strictly avoid using such tools, especially on days when high temperatures and/or strong winds prevail.
The announcement reminds the public that from June 1 through September 30, it is prohibited—without the written permission of the Director—during the period from June 1 through September 30, within a state forest or within a two-kilometer (2 km) zone from its boundary line, the use, in an open outdoor area, of any tool, machine, device, or other equipment for cutting or welding metals or other materials that, when used, generate heat, a flame, or a spark and may cause a fire.
