The fire that broke out in an apartment complex on Protaras Avenue has been brought under control, though the exact cause remains unknown at this time.
The incident caused extensive damage to two apartments, while all residents were safely evacuated without needing to be taken to the hospital. The circumstances surrounding the fire will be investigated when conditions permit, and according to a police statement, it does not appear to have been caused by malicious intent.
In a post on Platform X, Fire Department Spokesperson Andreas Kettis stated that “the fire is under control.”
He added that a total of four fire trucks responded to extinguish the fire.

Mr. Kettis reports that the fire started on the balcony of a second-floor apartment in a two-story building, spread inside the apartment, causing extensive damage.
At the same time, he notes, “falling burning debris caused a fire on the balcony of the ground-floor apartment, which also spread inside, causing extensive damage.”
“The occupants of the apartment where the fire broke out (on the 2nd floor)—a woman and her two children—escaped the apartment safely after a bystander forced open the front door, before the Fire Department arrived,” he adds.
According to Mr. Kettis, a tenant of the first-floor apartment, which was not affected by the fire, evacuated safely.
He also notes that there were no occupants in the ground-floor apartment affected by the fire at the time it broke out.
“Damage was also caused to the furnishings on the balcony of a neighboring second-floor apartment next to the one involved in the fire,” he adds.
An ambulance also responded to the incident, although the residents who evacuated the apartments did not require medical attention beyond a precautionary examination at the scene.
“An investigation into the cause of the fire will follow when conditions permit,” Mr. Kettis concludes.
