The terrorism case that has preoccupied Cyprus, Greece, and international security agencies is taking a new turn. The Larnaca CID arrested a 41-year-old third-country national, who was transferred to Cyprus following a coordinated operation in an Asian country. According to official sources, the 41-year-old is alleged to have played a leading role in the organization currently under investigation by the authorities.

The head of the Larnaca CID, Giorgos Charalambous, confirmed that members of the Larnaca CID, in cooperation with other agencies of the Republic, arrested a 41-year-old third-country national as part of the investigation into the terrorism case. The suspect was located in an Asian country and transported to Cyprus following a coordinated operation, while the Larnaca District Court issued an eight-day detention order against him.

According to Mr. Charalambous, the 41-year-old is being investigated for the same offenses as those facing the three individuals already charged.

According to exclusive information from CNA, investigators from the Larnaca CID believe that the 41-year-old is allegedly the person who coordinated and directed the group, while the three accused are said to have traveled abroad, where they had contact and meetings with him. The same sources report that authorities are examining his role as the person who allegedly provided instructions and guidance for the activities of the network under investigation.

His arrest is described by relevant sources as one of the most significant successes of the Cypriot law enforcement authorities since the start of the investigation, as it is believed that it may shed light on the entire structure and international connections of the alleged organization.

The 41-year-old is under investigation for the same serious offenses as the three defendants, including terrorism, participation in a criminal organization, conspiracy to commit murder, conspiracy to commit a felony, and money laundering.

It should be noted that a 54-year-old Palestinian with Cypriot citizenship, as well as two men aged 32 and 38, who are scheduled to appear again on August 6.

According to reports from the investigating authorities regarding the case, the 32-year-old and 38-year-old are alleged to have ties to Hamas and are alleged to have been planning terrorist attacks against Israeli targets in Cyprus. These allegations are the subject of criminal proceedings and have not been adjudicated by the court.
