There was a strong police presence and activity throughout Cyprus last night, with organized patrols conducted at key locations in urban areas, aimed at preventing serious criminal acts, maintain public order, and enhance the public’s sense of security.
As a result of these preventive policing operations, 17 individuals were arrested for various offenses, including drug possession, possession of burglary tools and carrying knives, illegal residence in the Republic, as well as outstanding court-ordered fines.
As part of these operations, 445 vehicles were stopped for inspection overnight, and 556 individuals traveling in them were checked. At the same time, 47 property inspections were conducted to address violations, resulting in four complaints.
During the traffic checks that were carried out, 256 citations were issued for various traffic violations, and 17 cases of traffic violations are currently under investigation. As part of the police investigations, 16 vehicles were impounded.
Of the reports filed for traffic violations, 71 concerned speeding. Four reports were filed for driving under the influence of alcohol, while four cases of driving under the influence of drugs were identified following preliminary drug tests. A total of 124 drivers were tested for driving under the influence of alcohol, while eight drivers were tested for driving under the influence of drugs.
Law enforcement operations, aimed at crime prevention and suppression, continue daily, with an increased police presence, targeted checks, and immediate operational action, with the aim of protecting citizens and ensuring public order.
