There was a strong police presence and activity throughout Cyprus last night, with organized patrols conducted at key locations in urban areas, aimed at preventing serious criminal acts, maintaining public order, and enhancing the public’s sense of security.
As a result of these preventive policing operations, nine individuals were arrested for various offenses, including, among others, breaking and entering and theft, drunkenness, verbal abuse and causing a disturbance in a public place, illegal stay in the territory of the Republic, as well as driving under the influence of alcohol.
As part of these operations, 620 vehicles were stopped for inspection overnight, and 871 individuals traveling in them were checked. At the same time, 57 premises were inspected to address violations, resulting in nine complaints.
During the traffic checks that were carried out, 353 citations were issued for various traffic violations, and 18 cases of traffic violations are currently under investigation. As part of the police investigations, 21 vehicles were impounded.
Of the complaints filed for traffic violations, 79 involved speeding and 25 involved driving under the influence of alcohol. In addition, three cases of driving under the influence of drugs were identified following preliminary drug tests. A total of 338 vehicle drivers were tested for driving under the influence of alcohol, while eight drivers were tested for driving under the influence of drugs.
Law enforcement operations, aimed at preventing and suppressing crime, continue daily, with an increased police presence, targeted checks, and immediate operational action, with the aim of protecting citizens and ensuring public order.
