After four weeks of an intensified police presence on Lady’s Mile and Kourion beaches, the British Bases Police (BB) announced that a total of 12 arrests were made, including one last weekend for possession of narcotics and offensive weapons.

The suspect, a 34-year-old man of Bulgarian origin who claimed to be homeless, was found driving under the influence of drugs.

During a search of his vehicle, a small amount of narcotics was found, which, according to the police, was intended for personal use, as well as a number of illegal sharp kitchen knives, a sickle, and a wooden bat.

The 34-year-old was arrested immediately and remains in custody until his case is heard on July 6.

Meanwhile, 20 drivers were cited for less serious traffic violations, 60 people received written warnings for violations related to road traffic and the use of speedboats, while two individuals were referred to the Akrotiri District Court for operating without the required professional license.

It is estimated that Lady’s Mile and Kourion beaches attract more than 7,000 visitors daily on weekends. According to Sergeant Tony Dimitriou, public safety and enhancing citizens’ sense of security remain at the center of police efforts.

As he stated: “Operation Guardian has gotten off to a very positive start and is already demonstrating its positive impact. Our proactive approach has helped maintain safety on the beaches, while also enhancing the sense of security among thousands of visitors, as evidenced by the results achieved to date.”

The BB Police Port Unit also maintains a strong presence in the area and has so far conducted inspections of 113 boats and jet skis.
