The police are receiving reports from members of the public regarding fraudulent messages that appear to have been sent by the Assistant Attorney General, Mr. Savvas Angelidis.
The scammers are using his name and title in an attempt to lend credibility to their messages and mislead recipients.
The public is urged to be particularly cautious, not to respond to these messages, and not to follow any instructions contained therein.
At the same time, it is recommended to avoid opening links or attachments and sharing personal information.
The mention of an official’s name or title in a message does not guarantee its authenticity.
The public is urged not to respond to such messages, as they are scams.
Tips:
So far, the messages appear to be sent via the messaging app WhatsApp.
If a user responds and clicks on the fraudulent link, the scammers automatically gain access to their account.
As a security measure, citizens are urged to go to their account settings and check the “Connected Devices” section, where they can verify if any other devices are connected.
As an additional security measure, they can also enable “Two-Step Verification” through their account settings.
