The police will be on high alert ahead of the Feast of the Assumption and the increased traffic expected on the highways, particularly on the main roads leading to coastal resorts and mountainresorts.

Speaking on the “Alpha Summer” program, Sergeant Tassos Asiekkis, emphasized that enhanced measures will be implemented over the three-day period from August 14 to 16, with the aim of preventing traffic accidents and facilitating travel for the public to and from mountain and coastal resorts.

These measures will include, he added, motorized patrols, traffic control and enforcement, with a particular focus on serious traffic offenses, such as driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, speeding, dangerous passing, failure to wear a seat belt, using a cell phone or other object while driving, and dangerous or reckless driving.

Traffic Police Guidelines

Mr. Assikis explained in detail the instructions that have been issued to the Police Directorates, for which each Directorate has drawn up an action plan.

Specifically, in Nicosia, instructions have been given to the Nicosia Police Directorate to take all necessary measures to ensure the smooth and safe flow of traffic on the Nicosia-Paleochori road.

At the same time, personnel will be stationed at Fota tou Kalispera “if necessary.”

As for the Morphou Traffic Police, instructions have been issued to deploy a “sufficient number” of patrol cars and motorcycles to patrol and conduct checks from the Atsa roundabout junction to the Akaki roundabout.

Additionally, as Mr. Asiekkis noted, traffic lights at Astromeritis-Peristerona-Akaki should be staffed if increased traffic is observed.

Meanwhile, the Morphou Traffic Police should also deploy a patrol to cover the Katydata–Kykkos Monastery road.

In Limassol, measures include providing assistance with the flow of vacationers on the Limassol–Saita–Troodos road, the Limassol–Agros road, and the Limassol–Kantou- Kyvidon-Agios Amvrosios-Omodos, as well as during the return of day-trippers to Limassol.

In Famagusta, the Traffic Police will take measures on the Ayia Napa–Larnaca road up to Ormideia, while the Traffic Police Headquarters will be present on the main road network to provide assistance to the public.

““Especially during those three days, policing measures will be stepped up as vacationers return, and emphasis will be placed on regulating traffic at the Rizoelia grade-separated roundabout.” added Mr. Asiekkis.
