A police investigation is currently underway into the case of 4-year-old Marios, who is hospitalized at Makareio Hospital in a brain-dead state following a diagnosis of viral meningitis, according to a statement issued by OKYPY following a protest held outside Limassol General Hospital, as the family alleges medical malpractice.
Specifically, OKYPY states that regarding today’s protest at Limassol General Hospital, which concerns the treatment of a four-year-old child with viral meningitis, the State Health Services Organization (OKYPY), understanding the pain of the family and relatives and their desire to receive answers, reiterates the following:

- Regarding this specific incident, a police investigation is currently underway to ascertain the facts of the case, as part of which statements have already been taken, among other things, from the staff involved.
- At the same time, an internal investigation into the matter is continuing, in accordance with the Organization’s established procedures and applicable regulations.
- OKYPY emphasizes that, in the context of the investigation, it is important to uphold the fundamental principles of the rule of law, including the presumption of innocence, until the completion of the relevant proceedings, and to refrain from making any characterizations.

At the same time, it assures that, as a public-law organization with accredited services and strict quality assurance procedures, it strictly implements mechanisms that guarantee the prompt, impartial, and objective investigation of every allegation or complaint.”

It should be noted that around 9 a.m. on Monday, a protest was held for the 4-year-old, with the family demanding answers regarding the circumstances under which the child’s health deteriorated and alleging medical malpractice.
