Section of the Athalassa pedestrian walkway closed: The reason, what’s changing, and who Is affected

A section of the pedestrian/bicycle path in the Athalassa National Forest Park will remain temporarily closed to the public, as starting today, October 7, work begins on the construction of a new 1.4-kilometer-long pedestrian path. The work is expected to be completed by the end of December 2026.

The following is the announcement from the Forestry Department:

The Forestry Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Environment informs the public that, as part of the Park’s infrastructure upgrade projects, from today, October 7, through the end of December 2026, work will be carried out to create a new 1.4-kilometer-long pedestrian path in the Athalassa National Forest Park.

During the construction, the section of the existing pedestrian/bicycle path, from the entrance near the Agricultural Research Institute (ATI) to the Agios Georgios Dam, will remain temporarily closed to the public to ensure the safe and uninterrupted execution of the work.

The Forestry Department urges Park visitors to follow the instructions and signage provided, as well as to exercise due caution while moving through the areas of the Park where the work will be carried out.
