The management of the Bank of Cyprus Oncology Center has ordered an internal investigation into the case of an incorrect medication administered to a 40-year-old patient, who was rushed to the Accident and Emergency Department of Nicosia General Hospital.
The issue was highlighted in a report by the SigmaLive website, and as the Center confirms, the internal investigation aims “to fully investigate the circumstances under which the incident occurred.”
“There will be complete transparency regarding the outcome of the investigation. The Center’s priority at this stage remains the care of the patient and support for her family. Out of respect for medical confidentiality and the ongoing investigation, the Center will not make any further comments.”
The statement in its entirety:
According to the relevant article, the patient was administered an enteral nutrition formula intravenously, which is intended for administration through the digestive system and not directly into the bloodstream.
After the formulation was administered, the woman’s condition deteriorated, as she experienced severe shortness of breath, a drop in oxygen saturation, and an increased heart rate.
The patient was transferred to Nicosia General Hospital, where she remains in critical condition.
