A near-tragedy involving a young foreign national who was in danger in the waters off Limassol across from the GSO, and was rescued by lifeguards from the LEM 15 tower.

As reported in a post by the Limassol Lifeguard Unit, the incident occurred around 6:30 a.m., when the young man, who was visiting Cyprus for the first time, attempted to swim toward the rocks, despite having little experience in the sea. During his attempt, he began to struggle and called for help.

The lifeguards stationed at the LEM 15 tower immediately recognized the danger and rushed to the scene on a Jet-Ski. Meanwhile, a swimmer who was near the 24-year-old rushed to help him and stayed with him until the rescuers arrived.

When the lifeguards arrived at the scene, the young man could no longer touch the bottom, making the rescue operation particularly critical. The rescuers safely pulled him onto the rescue board and transported him to shore.

After being stabilized, the 24-year-old was found to be in good condition, and no further medical care was deemed necessary.

It should be noted that the LEM 15 tower is one of two lifeguard stations in Limassol that are staffed from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., providing coverage from early in the morning to ensure the safety of swimmers.
