A serious electrical system malfunction caused a power outage in various areas of Cyprus that lasted for about an hour, today, Friday, at 10:40 a.m. This was reported in a statement by the EAC. It emphasized that the problem was caused by a temporary loss of telecommunications connections between the large photovoltaic parks and the Electricity Distribution Control Center. As a result, it became impossible to monitor the photovoltaic parks, which caused a disruption in the power system.
The EAC apologizes to the public for the disruption caused and thanks consumers for their understanding and cooperation.
The relevant departments of the EAC are taking measures to install backup telecommunications connections, with the aim of preventing similar incidents in the future, the statement concludes.
