A total of 14 cases of West Nile virus infection have been recorded in Cyprus as of September 17, 2026, according to information from the Medical and Public Health Services of the Ministry of Health.
It should be noted that of the 14 cases, nine are confirmed and five are probable. Furthermore, 13 of the cases are locally acquired, and one is imported. It is recalled that, to date, one death has been recorded in a patient with a complicated medical history and underlying conditions.
Activity of acute respiratory infections remains at low levels
According to the same report, the incidence of acute respiratory infections in the community, as recorded by the Sentinel Surveillance Network in Primary Health Care, remains at low levels, with 42 cases per 1,000 visits.
During the period September 7–13, 2026, according to aggregate data reported by public and private hospitals, there were five hospitalizations due to influenza, no hospitalizations due to RSV, and six hospitalizations due to SARS-CoV-2.
During the previous week, that is, between August 31 and September 6, 2026, two hospitalizations due to influenza A and four due to SARS-CoV-2 were recorded. It should be noted, however, that during the period covering the above two weeks, no admissions to an Intensive Care Unit were recorded.
