The case file for the “Sandy” case is currently before the Attorney General, as he himself stated before the Parliament’s Legal Affairs Committee.
As reported by Eleni Michael on the “Alpha News” program, Attorney General Giorgos Savvides revealed, in response to a question from ELAM MP Sotiris Ioannou, that the case file is in his office. As he explained, the police first completed the initial phase of the investigation, then instructions were given to review it to determine any potential liability, and the case file has now been finalized so that a decision can be made on whether to pursue prosecution.
During the debate, AKEL MP Andreas Pasiourtides, referring to the “State Mafia” case, told Giorgos Savvides and Savvas Angelides that they should resign, emphasizing that the Legal Service cannot recuse itself from such a case and act merely as a messenger, thereby creating such an impasse.
Meanwhile, Mr. Savvidis stated that the recusal was made for reasons of objective impartiality, adding that if they had done the opposite, they “would have been hung out to dry” again.
He added that the criminal investigation would be completed first, and only then would a position be taken, while he subsequently noted that those criticizing the Legal Service are television commentators.
Meanwhile, commenting on the case of the black van, Mr. Savvidis stated that these are two separate cases in Cyprus and Greece.
For his part, Mr. Angelides stated that if any charges are to be brought, they will become clear once the investigation is completed.
