The case of Kasif Kozinoglu, an official with Turkey’s MIT who was found dead in Silivria Prison in 2011, is taking a new turn in Turkey. As part of the investigation, arrest warrants were issued for four individuals, including the then-chief prosecutor of Silivri and the retired colonel of the Gendarmerie, Hasan Attila Uğur.
According to reports in Turkey, Turkish authorities have determined that Ugur is in occupied Cyprus and have initiated the relevant legal proceedings to locate, arrest, and extradite him to Turkey.
According to Turkish media reports, the authorities have launched a new operation as part of the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Kasif Kozinoglu, who was a member of the Turkish intelligence agency MIT and died under controversial circumstances while being held at Silivria Prison.
Arrest warrants were issued for four individuals in connection with the case, and simultaneous raids were carried out in Istanbul and Ankara.
During the operations, Hasan Ataman Yildirim, who had been a cellmate of Kozinoglu; the then-chief prosecutor of Silivria, Ali Isgören, and the then-prison prosecutor, Necip Doğan.
An arrest warrant has also been issued for retired Colonel Hasan Attila Uğur of the Turkish Gendarmerie, who was also a former cellmate of Kozinoglu.
Hasan Attila Uğur is the father of the well-known Turkish TV host and founder of Babala TV, Oguzhan Uğur.
Kasif Kozinoglu died in 2011 at the Silivria Prison, where he was being held at the time. The circumstances of his death had raised questions in Turkey, as he was an MIT official with many years of service in the Turkish intelligence services.
Fifteen years later, the case has returned to the spotlight with the issuance of new arrest warrants and the detention of former judicial officials and his fellow inmates.
