ONEK in the “grip” of audits: The President has appealed to the Audit Office

How the ONEK President Rejects the Allegations of Refusal to Cooperate
ALPHANEWSLIVE

ONEK President Konstantina Achilleos is calling for the Board of Directors to be filled and for a NEDISY representative to be appointed, noting that the current outstanding issues are hindering the body’s smooth operation and the ability to make necessary decisions.

In a statement issued in response to an announcement by NEDISY and reports of her own “refusal to cooperate,” the President of ONEK states that she is and remains ready to cooperate “institutionally, openly, and with full transparency.”

As she notes, the issue “does not concern personal or partisan differences,” but exclusively the smooth and institutionally sound operation of ONEK.

She reports that the replacement of three members of the Board of Directors who have resigned has been pending for months, while the appointment of a NEDISY representative to the Board also remains pending.

According to her, this situation prevents the Board of Directors from functioning smoothly and causes the Organization to face difficulties in making the necessary decisions.

For this reason, she calls on NEDISY to appoint its representative and, through that representative, to submit its proposals, positions, and concerns to the Board of Directors.

“That is the institutional forum for dialogue, oversight, and decision-making, conducted with transparency and democratic procedures,” she states.

The ONEK President also notes that she has already formally addressed the Audit Office, the Commissioner for Administration, and other relevant bodies regarding issues concerning the Organization.

As she states, audits are currently underway to determine whether ONEK operated in accordance with the law and whether disciplinary or other liabilities arise for those involved.

She adds that, pending the relevant reports, the entire Board of Directors will be provided with the necessary information “based on factual and documented evidence.”

She states that she has no problem with criticism, oversight, or accountability, noting that these are an integral part of the democratic and institutional functioning of an organization.

“What is needed today is to set aside our differences and work to restore ONEK’s smooth operation,” she says.

In conclusion, he notes that ONEK needs a fully functional Board of Directors, stability, and institutional normality so that it can fulfill its mission and meet the needs of Cyprus’s youth.

“I believe this is the very least we all owe to the young men and women of our country,” he concludes.
