The occupants of the apartment where the fire started were inside. A neighbor entered through the main entrance and helped them escape to an open area.
The occupants were examined on the spot by an ambulance crew that arrived at the scene.
Meanwhile, a resident of a neighboring apartment, who is paraplegic, was evacuated from the building with the help of an off-duty firefighter and a police officer, before the fire trucks arrived.
