Next Monday, May 18, the Limassol District Local Government Organization is expected to petition the Limassol District Court for a court order to evacuate an apartment building in the tourist area of Germasogeia, which has been deemed dangerous, the Authority’s President, Yiannis Tsoulofta, told CNA.
The case of the Seagate apartment building, located on King George I Avenue, came to light following the tragic collapse of an apartment building, also in Germasogeia, on Holy Saturday, April 11, resulting in the deaths of two of our fellow citizens.
Mr. Tsoulofta said that the law firm representing the Organization is expected to file the application for an eviction order for the apartment building next Monday.
When asked why it took nearly a month after the three-day eviction deadline, which expired at midnight on April 20, the President of the Limassol EOA said that this is a process the Organization is undertaking for the first time and it had to be done correctly.
“This involves a large number of apartments; we had to locate all the owners and confirm that they received the relevant notice,” he added.
It is recalled that the Limassol EOA has placed warning signs on a total of 36 dangerous apartment buildings in the greater Limassol area, following the collapse of the apartment building in Germasogeia.
Regarding the Limassol CID’s investigation into the collapse, it is in its final stages, and once completed, the case file will be forwarded to the Attorney General for a ruling.
According to information received by CNA, the process of taking statements and conducting interrogations has been completed, and only the results of the scientific examinations remain to be received to finalize the case file.
