A 45-year-old man from Sri Lanka was taken to the Emergency Department of Larnaca General Hospital after apparently being struck by lightning in Kato Drys, according to Larnaca Assistant Police Director Giorgos Foukkaris. His condition is stable, according to the Cyprus Emergency Medical Service (OKYPY).
Due to the severe weather, police crisis management offices are operating in every district, with Giorgos Foukkaris in charge in Larnaca. As he told KYPE, around 12:55 p.m. on Saturday, in the area of the chapel of St. John the Baptist in Kato Drys, an incident occurred involving a 45-year-old foreign national from Sri Lanka.

OKYPY spokesperson Charalambos Charilaou reported that the man was transported to the Larnaca Emergency Department, as it appears he was struck by lightning. The man is being evaluated by doctors and undergoing various tests; according to his attending physicians, his condition is stable.
Regarding the broader issues caused by the severe weather, Mr. Foukkaris noted that the situation in the Larnaca district is returning to normal and there were no major problems, other than fallen trees and downed power lines, as well as objects—such as trash cans and signs—being blown away by the strong winds.
Regarding reports of rain entering Larnaca General Hospital and people being trapped, Mr. Charilaou clarified that this was not the case, as there had been no leaks from the roof.
