Unfazed and well-equipped with the latest technology, Turkish citizen Taner Tolga Tarlacı, known for his appearance on the reality show Survivor, appears on camera and calls on Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Donald Trump, and Elon Musk to prove his innocence.
All of this could be a scene from yet another ordinary YouTube podcast if the filming weren’t taking place in the high-security Wing 10 of the Central Prison, where he is serving a prison sentence for rape, unlawful detention with the intent to subject the victim to sexual abuse, and threats of violence, with the victim being a 35-year-old woman. The crimes were committed in April 2022 in Paralimni, and the sentences were handed down in 2023 by the Permanent Criminal Court sitting in Famagusta.
The incident has caused an uproar at the correctional facility, as the videos in question were posted on the popular platform on August 14 and 15, 2026. According to reports, however, the Central Prison administration only became aware of the matter a few hours ago.
The issue has, however, gained significant attention in the Turkish and Turkish Cypriot press, as the inmate alleges racist treatment by the Cypriot justice system and poor detention conditions. Questions are also being raised about the security of telecommunications at the correctional facility, as he claims that in addition to his own phone, he also uses the phones of his fellow inmates to post on social media and to chat with his close friends.
