There was a strong police presence and activity throughout Cyprus last night, with organized patrols conducted at key locations in urban areas, aimed at preventing serious criminal acts, maintaining public order, and enhancing the public’s sense of security.
As a result of these preventive police operations, nine individuals were arrested for offenses such as illegal residence in the Republic, reckless and dangerous driving, possession of burglary tools and illegal possession of property, illegal possession of narcotics, illegal possession of property and tobacco products, causing a disturbance, disturbing the peace, and assaulting a police officer, among others.
As part of these operations, 596 drivers and 144 passengers were stopped and checked overnight. At the same time, 51 property inspections were conducted to address illegal activities, resulting in two complaints.
During the traffic checks that were carried out, 370 citations were issued for various traffic violations, and 26 cases of traffic violations are currently under investigation.
Among the citations issued, 122 were for drivers exceeding the speed limit, and 19 vehicles were impounded as part of police investigations.
A total of 100 breathalyzer tests were conducted, resulting in five citations, while five drivers tested positive in preliminary drug tests.
Law enforcement operations aimed at crime prevention and suppression continue daily, with an increased/reinforced police presence, targeted checks, and immediate operational action, with the aim of increasing citizens’ sense of security, protecting citizens, and ensuring public order.
