The Police have announced a Cyprus-wide awareness and enforcement campaign to combat distracted driving, with a focus on the use of cell phones or other objects without a hands-free device.
The campaign will begin tomorrow, Monday, October 5, 2026, and will conclude next Sunday, October 11, 2026. Throughout the campaign, members of the Traffic Police will conduct targeted roadside checks throughout Cyprus.
This initiative is part of the Cyprus Police’s collaboration with the European Traffic Police Network (ROADPOL) and is being carried out simultaneously across Europe, as part of the “Focus on the Road” campaign.
According to data, during the three-year period from 2023 to 2025, 22.1% of traffic fatalities were attributed to careless driving and distracted driving, while 29.4% of serious road injuries were attributed to the same cause, making it the leading cause of serious and fatal road injuries.
