A 43-year-old Russian national, Alexey Shokpa, was arrested by the “police” in the occupied village of Agios Amvrosios, Kyrenia (Alexey Shokpa), who is wanted by Interpol as the prime suspect in the murder of Vangelis Zambounis in Athens.
According to the website “Kipris Postasi,” the 43-year-old was brought before a “court” in the occupied territories, where he was charged with illegal residence and violating a “military restricted zone.”
According to a member of the “police,” the suspect had been residing illegally in the occupied territories for 389 days, and reported that he had secretly crossed into the free areas via the Tymbou region and returned to the occupied territories in the same manner in July. The “court” issued an “order” for his three-day detention, while the purpose of his presence and any possible involvement in other crimes are being investigated.
It should be noted, as previously reported in Greek media, that 44-year-old Vangelis Zambounis was murdered in January 2024 in Neos Kosmos in a hail of gunfire, a case that the Greek Police link to a settling of scores and the activities of a criminal organization involved in tobacco smuggling. The Hellenic Police had released Sokpa’s details and photograph to the public on August 2 of this year.
