Accumulated grease inside the chimneys caught fire, causing the major blaze that broke out on Sunday morning in a building in Limassol.
Specifically, at 9:27 a.m. yesterday, a call was received reporting a fire in the exhaust hood of a dining area on the ground floor of a five-story building in Limassol.
The Limassol Fire Stations responded to the scene with four fire trucks and a hydraulic telescopic platform, and the fire was brought under controlat 11:30 a.m.
The chimneys sustained extensive damage from the fire and heat, while outdoor facilities and equipment on the building’s roof were also affected.
The paint on the masonry along the area where the chimneys were located was also damaged, as was part of the electrical wiring in the dining area.
At the time the fire broke out, an employee of the store was inside making preparations and, upon noticing the fire, evacuated to a safe area.
