Clarifications regarding specific points in the Ministry of Education’s proposal for the Teacher Appointment System were provided at today’s meeting with the Minister of Education, Sports, and Youth, Athina Michaelidou, POED President Myria Vassiliou told CNA after the meeting concluded.
The meeting lasted nearly two hours, with POED leadership presenting a series of questions aimed at clarifying key aspects of the Ministry’s proposal.
As Ms. Vassiliou stated in response to questions from KYPE, “During the discussion, clarifications were provided for some of the questions we raised, while for others, the Minister committed to providing us with further details and clarifications in the near future, along with an updated proposal from the Ministry, which will set out the specific provisions and possible scenarios with greater clarity.”
Ms. Vassiliou also stated that POED reiterated its basic position, “which concerns maintaining the List of Appointees and correcting the distortions in the Appointment Table, without teachers being wronged or victimized.”
The POED President noted that the organization will await the Ministry’s updated proposal and additional clarifications before taking a comprehensive position.
“Following today’s meeting, we continue to believe that POED’s proposal to extend the transitional period is a tried-and-true and effective solution, which can contribute to the smooth staffing of schools without creating injustices or problems for teachers,” Ms. Vassiliou stated.
Finally, she said that the issue will be discussed in the coming days by the POED Board of Directors, as well as in coordination with the other two teachers’ organizations, OELMEK and OLTEK.
