Yesterday, Saturday, July 4, 2026, officials from the Customs Department at Paphos Airport, after evaluating intelligence, identified two male passengers of British nationality, aged 25 and 24, respectively, and two female passengers of Danish nationality, aged 23 and 22, respectively, prior to their departure for London, United Kingdom, with their luggage containing large quantities of tobacco products, whose packaging did not bear the warning about the dangers of smoking in Greek and Turkish, nor did it include the security feature or the unique traceability code, indications that they were duty-free.
Specifically, the following were found in the passengers’ luggage:
• In the first passenger’s luggage, 39 cartons were found, each containing 200 cigarettes, 8 packs of 20 cigarettes each, and 5 packages of rolling tobacco weighing 50 grams each (total 250 grams).
• In the luggage of the second passenger, 45 cartons of 200 cigarettes each and 60 packages of rolling tobacco weighing 50 grams each (total 3 kilograms).
• In the luggage of the third female passenger, 64 cartons of 200 cigarettes each and 55 packages of rolling tobacco weighing 50 grams each were found (total 2 kilograms and 750 grams).
• In the luggage of the fourth passenger, 53 cartons of 200 cigarettes each and 75 packages of rolling tobacco weighing 50 grams each were found (total of 3 kilograms and 750 grams).
The four passengers were arrested for offenses committed in flagrante delicto, and their luggage and its contents were confiscated. They were later released after their proposal for an out-of-court settlement of the cases was accepted, with payments of €2,500, €3,900, €4,000, and €4,000, respectively.
A total of €13,400 was collected, while the confiscated tobacco products will undergo the prescribed destruction process.
