On June 24, 2026, officials from the Customs Department at Paphos Airport, after evaluating information, identified a female passenger of British nationality, prior to her departure for Liverpool, United Kingdom, whose luggage contained large quantities of cigarettes, the packaging of which did not bear the health warnings in Greek and Turkish, nor did it include the security feature and the unique traceability code, indicating that they were duty-free.
Specifically, a total of 46 cartons, each containing 200 cigarettes, and 40 packs, each containing 20 cigarettes, were found in the passenger’s luggage. The passenger was arrested for offenses committed in flagrante delicto, while her luggage and its contents were confiscated. Today, she was brought before the Paphos District Court, which issued an order for her to be held in custody for four days to facilitate the investigation. The Paphos Customs Office is continuing its investigation into the case.
