Authorities are trying to determine the exact circumstances under which this latest tragedy on the road occurred.
The latest fatal accident, which claimed the life of 80-year-old Andreas Georgakis, occurred at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, on the Limassol-Paphos highway past the Avdimou exit.
The 80-year-old had pulled over into the emergency lane, and when he moved to the right to merge onto the highway, he collided with a vehicle behind him carrying a 72-year-old and an 86-year-old woman.

The unfortunate 80-year-old man was trapped in the wreckage of the vehicle; the Fire Department intervened and extricated him, and he was subsequently transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
It was determined that the 80-year-old was not wearing a seatbelt.
Meanwhile, as reported by journalist Erica Kavazi on the “Alpha Kalimera” program, according to information, the 80-year-old was headed for the Polemidia area, and authorities are investigating whether he attempted to make a U-turn on the highway.
The exact cause of death is expected to be determined by the legally mandated autopsy.
