It is expected that those responsible will be held accountable for the deaths of Kyriakos Oxinos and Styliani Giorgalli, who were killed in a car accident involving vehicles equipped with Takata airbags, following the completion of the criminal investigation, which is currently in the hands of the Legal Service, the family of Kyriakos Oxinos.
Speaking on the “Alpha Kalimera” program, the attorney for Kyriakos Oxinos’s mother, Marios Spyrou, described the completion of the criminal investigation and its referral to the Legal Service as a positive development.
“Our assessment, based on the facts we are aware of, based on what has come to our attention, the hearings of the three-member panel, and the content of the report, is that there will be some accountability. And that is what we expect.”
He notes, however, that this will be decided by the Legal Service, which will have all the details before it.
“If there are criminal liabilities, we expect the Attorney General to file the relevant criminal charges and bring before the court those individuals who, at first glance, appear to be responsible based on the police investigation.”
He notes that they have determined there is now awareness regarding the Takata issue.
“Unfortunately, it is clear that some people are aware of this. At least we, as the attorneys for Maria Loui’s family, have seen this, this is what we confirmed, and it truly saddens us deeply that we also witnessed a delay following Kyriakos’s death, which ultimately resulted in Styliani’s death.”
She expressed the hope that the Legal Service will carefully and thoroughly review all the testimony.
“I am of the opinion that criminal liability will be established, and I expect that those responsible will be held accountable. Now, what we will do is wait and hope that, as soon as possible, we will receive a clear statement from the Attorney General regarding how the case is proceeding.”
