Dimitris Konstantinou, Press Officer for the Ministry of Health, stated on the “Alpha News” program that after the alert he had issued had ended, when the body was sought by a funeral home to be transported to the airport and could not be located, all necessary steps are being taken to return the deceased to his relatives.

Mr. Konstantinou explained that an investigation revealed it became apparent that the standard tag bearing the deceased’s name had not been placed next to the body, leading to the assumption that it had “gone missing” from the morgue.

He described the incident as a “serious mistake” and noted that the Ministry of Health “will review its internal procedures to ensure that a similar incident does not recur in the future.”
