Following cross-examination of the complainant by defense attorneys Christos Pourgouridis and Nontas Korakidis, the trial of the suspended Mayor of Paphos, Faidon Faidonos, continued today behind closed doors.

The court set the next hearing for Thursday, October 22.

The two previous hearings were preceded by the complainant’s lengthy testimony inside the Paphos Criminal Courtroom, while the suspended Mayor of Paphos was in an adjacent courtroom during her testimony.

According to reports, the trial is expected to conclude before the end of 2026.

Once the prosecution witnesses have finished testifying, the Court will decide whether the prosecution has succeeded in establishing a prima facie case or not. If it is determined that the Prosecution has done so, then the defense counsel is expected to call the defense witnesses.

A witness who was expected to testify at previous court sessions will ultimately not testify due to hospitalization following health issues he experienced. However, the President of the Paphos Criminal Court is expected to consider whether this particular prosecution witness, who is facing a serious health issue, will testify from the hospital where he is being treated.

The suspended mayor of Paphos faces five charges relating to rape, indecent assault against a woman, indecent assault against a woman involving another act, assault resulting in actual bodily harm, and administering a drug or other substance capable of sedating or incapacitating a person. He has pleaded not guilty to all five charges.

The trial will resume at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 22.
