The results of the election for the positions of Vice Rectors at the University of Cyprus were announced on Wednesday evening, following a vote that lasted nearly four hours. Professor Georgia Panagiotou was elected Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, and Professor Marios D. Dikaakos was elected Vice Rector for International Relations, Finance and Administration.
Announcing the results at the University of Cyprus Sports Center, the Supervisor of the 2026 Rectoral Elections, Savvas Christodoulou, stated that for the position of Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, there were a total of 486 electors, and 353 cast votes. There were 347 valid ballots, 6 invalid ballots, and 80 blank ballots, with candidate Georgia Panagiotou receiving 267 votes.

Regarding the position of Vice Rector for International Relations, Finance, and Administration, Mr. Christodoulou said that there were 486 electors in total, and 353 cast votes. There were 353 valid ballots, zero invalid ballots, and 7 blank ballots. Marios Dikaakos received 209 votes and Antonis Ellinas 137, he added.
The Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Professor in the Department of Psychology, Georgia Panagiotou, thanked everyone in the university community who voted, noting that “now is the time for everyone to get to work, and for that to happen, the entire community must come together.”
In turn, the Vice Rector for International Relations, Finance, and Administration, and Professor in the Department of Informatics, Marios D. Dikaakos, thanked those who voted, the Election Committee, and the Election Authority for their hard work, as well as his fellow candidate, Professor in the Department of Social and Political Sciences, Antonis Ellinas, “for the opportunity to discuss our views on the University.”
“I think we all agree on the basics. The challenges lie ahead of us. I hope I won’t disappoint those who voted for me and those who didn’t,” he concluded.
Voting for the Vice Rectors of International Relations, Finance and Administration, and Academic Affairs began around 3:15 p.m., following the election of the new Rector.
