“Perhaps this is also a scandal, if true, many of the EAC’s generators are started much earlier than they should be to generate electricity, and everyone is billed at the highest rate the EAC would charge.”
Fidias Panagiotou – Head of Direct Democracy / Member of the European Parliament

In a memorandum to the president, they called for electricity and fuel to be designated as essential goods and necessities, and consequently for the VAT rate to be reduced to 5%.

As short-term measures, they called for a reduction in pollution fines and a refund of the taxes paid by consumers. They demanded the correction of distortions that have arisen with the opening of the market, as well as price caps. They also recommended dynamic pricing.

The protest was supported by AKEL, the Ecologists’ Movement, and the Party for Animals.

“The energy policies implemented by the previous government and the current one have been extremely costly and harmful.”
Giorgos Georgiou – AKEL Member of Parliament

“Instead of moving toward the green transition, they sought to maintain the fossil fuel crisis.”
Ecologists’ Movement – Citizens’ Collaboration

“Our planet is burning—there should be thousands of people here.”
Animal Party

With participants emphasizing that today’s mobilization is just the beginning.
