The murder of Thanasis Kalogeropoulos was premeditated and constituted a premeditated act. This was the ruling announced by the Limassol Criminal Court, which, after having the four defendants stand, found them guilty and sentenced them to life imprisonment.
The President of the three-judge Criminal Court noted that the decision spans more than 600 pages and was unanimous. The Court concluded that, based on the testimony presented before it, it had been proven beyond a reasonable doubt that the four defendants were guilty of the premeditated murder of Thanasis Kalogeropoulos.
More than 560 pieces of evidence were submitted to the Criminal Court, and 75 witnesses testified. The court addressed the roles played by the four convicted defendants, emphasizing that it had concluded that the first defendant was the one who committed the murder as one of the perpetrators; however, it was not possible to reach a definitive conclusion regarding the second perpetrator.
As mentioned, the second defendant provided his home for the plan to carry out the murder of the 55-year-old, while maintaining contact with the other defendants. As noted, the choice of that specific residence was not random, and the defendant made false claims.
Defendants three and four, as the court stated, were captured on security cameras coming and going from the mansion and communicating with one another, fully aware of the plan to kill the victim.
Thanasis Kalogeropoulos was murdered on October 30, 2023, when he was ambushed in the parking lot of the beachfront shop he frequented. Two men opened fire on him, fatally wounding him inside his SUV. They then fled in a vehicle that was later found burning, and firearms were discovered inside it. Security cameras recorded the two suspects fleeing on a motorcycle and reaching the Larnaca district. Both crime scenes were cordoned off by a large police presence. Immediately after gathering information and witness statements, the Limassol CID proceeded to arrest the four Greek Cypriot convicts, aged 43, 46, 24, and 23 years old. The operation took place in the presence of the victim’s relatives and friends, as well as a strong police presence.
